Transportation Manager


Shift Information: Full Time

Job Description: The Transportation Manager oversees the entire operation of the company’s truck/trailer fleet to assure that Nazareth Pallet’s high service levels are maintained and improved at minimum expense. Works in conjunction with the Production Managers and Sales Service Manager in the planning and execution of all customer services relating to delivery and pick up functions needed to ensure customer satisfaction.

Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Managing all drivers and fleet equipment along with the supervision of one dispatcher
  • Developing and maintaining a productive work team by hiring, training, and directing their development
  • Building and maintaining driver relationships through understanding and meeting drivers’ needs which include, but are not limited to, payroll, utility, equipment breakdowns, logging violations, safety and equipment issues, etc.. Must be able to fairly supervise, counsel, and discipline personnel by taking actions needed without direction of upper management.
  • Executing performance evaluations for recommending wage increases and terminations
  • Supervising the department dispatcher in assigning drivers to loads by optimizing load information such as originations, destinations, number of miles, stops, directions, etc. with drivers’ needs and availability. This is done using Fleetmatics GPS.
  • Understanding and adhering to our customers’ service expectations, goals, and initiatives as they relate to improving value for the customer
  • Interfacing with various departments including Billing, Maintenance, Sales Services, Safety, Human Resources, and external vendors
  • Working to control CSA scores with proactive activity

Job Requirements: The successful candidate should have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Transportation / Logistics or similar) and/or two to three years of fleet management, supply chain, or transportation experience in the trucking industry
  • Strong organizational and problem solving skills
  • Computer (MS Office) and Satellite Communication System skills required
  • Knowledge of DOT rules and regulations
  • Previous CDL-A driver experience a plus
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of CSA scoring ability to take action for company benefit
  • Ability to learn technical material required to accomplish objectives
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong sense of urgency
  • Proven coaching skills
